Written reflective questions of James Nachtwey's opioid epidemic photo essay |
(Mon.) - Students will watch a photo essay (from 6 minutes into the YouTube movie until 43 minutes [37 minutes total]) of America's opioid epidemic, narrated by photojournalist James Nachtwey who shot the photos featured in the March 5, 2018 issue of Time magazine. After watching, they will answer some questions about what they saw and heard in reflective writing.
"I will reflect (in writing) on the photographs and words of photojournalist James Nachtwey, whose photo essay about America's opioid epidemic was published in Time magazine a few weeks ago."
(Tues. or Wed.) - At the beginning of the period, students will browse the internet and choose a photo that they will use for the background in their Green Screen Photoshop project. After that, in small groups, students will shoot their classmates in front of a green screen as they pose for a photo to go along with their internet background photo. Students will then follow directions in the Green Screen tutorial, using their photos to complete the project.
"I will demonstrate my Photoshop skills by combining a green screen background photo with a posed photo of myself in a creative way."
(Thurs.) - Students will turn in their total number (10) of movie or sports poster photos, or album cover photos. Then, students will carefully look at their photos, choose the best one, edit it and turn it in to Google Classroom.
"I will closely examine all of my photos before I choose the best one (Movie poster, sports poster or album cover photo) to edit, making sure the photo is cropped correctly and has good exposure (using levels, the burn and dodge tools, etc.)"
(Fri.) - Students will use their final edited photo to complete the assignment by using their Photoshop skills to add a background photo and text, etc. to make it look closer to the original.
"I will use my Photoshop skills to add effects (titles, background photo, etc.) to make my sports poster, movie poster or album cover look as close to the original as possible."
